Yaupon Holly or Yaupon, is a species of Holly that is native to the South Eastern United States. It is North America's only plant that is richly caffeinated. The young leaves are harvested, dried and roasted to activate the caffeine within the plant. Besides caffeine, this plant contains theobromine and theophylinne which both can be found in dark chocolate . Theobromine is considered to be a slight mood enhancer, it also provides moderate focus and can lower blood pressure. Theophylinne is commonly used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, reduce inflammation and help other lung diseases. Yaupon is packed full of antioxidants, making it a great tea to drink hot or cold to keep your body happy throughout the year.
